My figurative paintings convey attitude through the pose. They are about feelings expressed in color and form
“Each painting is the detritus of battle” – a struggle of laying down paint, wiping it off, scratching at it, abandoning it and then reconnecting until it finally “feels right”. It is “like trying to dance with a bear that wants to wrestle.”
I try to maintain a piece of each stage of the painting in the finished work so it becomes a historical overlay of the process it went through to reach the final stage.
